About

Alexandros Katsis was born in Athens in 1979 and began his professional career in visual arts (photography and cinematography) in 2007.

In 2011, he held the position of official photographer for the Special Olympics. Until 2014, he collaborated with the agency Fosphotos, and his work has been published in many major Greek and international media, including VICE, Politico, The Independent, Associated Press, Agence France-Presse (AFP), The Telegraph, South as a State of Mind, BuzzFeed, Lens Culture, Vimagazino, Lifo, Popaganda, and Periodico «K».

His focus is on social issues, using creation as a tool for visibility to bring people and their stories into the spotlight. In his artistic practice, he seeks out the fractures within hierarchies, which led him early on to prefer collective creation over individual projects.

His artistic exploration has now expanded beyond photography to include cinematic storytelling. Specifically, he participates in the production of films, documentaries, and television programs as a Director of Photography or videographer, while currently co-directing his first feature-length documentary.

Concurrently, he is completing a decade in teaching photography. A cornerstone of this journey has been the founding of the Alos Photography Team, which functions as an experimental laboratory for collective creation. Through this approach, learning is not transmitted but co-created: participants take on an active role in the narrative process, transforming photography from a medium of individual expression into a tool for collective creation and shared inquiry.
